How Tooth Nerve Pain Occurs

Oh God! Taking about pain especially tooth pain, it’s heart-wrenching. Those who have gone through the tooth nerve pain could better understand this. What this nerve pain is? A sudden sensation in the tooth, which travels toward an eye and hit your head. This sensation compels you to put your hand to the side of the face. Sometimes it is just a slight pain but sometimes it’s become unbearable. Many people suffer from this pain while eating or drinking. They usually think this pain will have gone after a while but this could not happen. The tooth nerve pain stays long often.

Tooth nerve pain is the most common pain. Almost everyone has suffered from the tooth pain in his/her life. I have also gone through this nerve pain. It is something that can shake you. From the tooth pain, you feel a headache, fever, and burning eyes. The tooth nerve pain is not fun, seriously. The tooth pain occurs due to several reasons: by eating the wrong food, drinking cold water, hot beverages, due to the cavity, tooth decay, cracked tooth, and gum infection. Your ear also suffers a lot due to the tooth pain. The tooth nerve is the common path and the pain can travel easily from your mouth to your head.

Composition of Tooth
A tooth is composed of 4 parts:

  1. Enamel.
  2. Dentin.
  3. Cementum.
  4. Pulp.

Tooth enamel is the strongest part of the tooth. It presents on the outer layer of each tooth. Its duty is to protect the tooth. It is like a shell and protects the inner tooth. The other layer in the tooth is cementum. It is another layer and it has a duty to protect the root of the tooth. So, the outer layer of the tooth is protected by enamel and the root below the gumline is protected by cementum.

The next substance of the tooth is dentin. It is not heavy and thick substance like enamel and cementum. Dentin contains tiny microscopic tubules. These tubules connected to the last substance called tooth pulp. Pulp hosts the tooth nerves. Tooth pain occurs when the dentin wears away and through the tubules, the food and drink can reach to the nerves. This is how the tooth pain occurs.

Avoidable Food Items
The important thing is, you should know which food or drink is bad for your teeth. Sometimes you eat or drink something and afterward you feel pain. For that, you should know the avoidable items. Some people do not have sensitive teeth, they can eat and drink whatever they want but the eating and drinking case is different with the people having sensitive teeth. You should identify the food items which might have caused tooth pain.

The most common food items are hot and cold beverages. Like, the people having sensitive teeth when drinking cold juices or hot beverages like coffee and tea, a sudden pain hit their teeth. If you are having sensitive teeth you should avoid red wine, hot and cold beverages, citric acid, sugary items, desserts, sour items, soda drinks, energy drinks, ice cream, sports drinks, meat, and nuts in pain.

How the Tooth Nerve Becomes Exposed
These food items that I have mentioned above are the main cause to expose the tooth nerve. But, healthy food items can also cause tooth nerve pain. The healthy food like fruits that contain a high Ph level. The fruits like grapefruit or lemon can weaken the enamel and it can expose the tooth nerve. So, it is necessary for you to take good care of your oral health to avoid any tooth pain.
