Socket Preservation is essential After a Tooth Extraction

When your dentist extracts your tooth, there will be a hole left behind. That hole is very sensitive and it is also painful at the start. You can overcome to the pain by taking some painkillers but the proper care of the socket is also essential. The socket is the hole, from where your dentist extracted the tooth. You need to protect the hole from where the wisdom tooth or the fully damaged tooth has been extracted. After the tooth extraction, that hole is the most sensitive area in your mouth. The care and protection are essential for the following reasons.

How to Avoid a Dry Socket
When the tooth extracted, it might have left the blood clot. Then the socket (hole) becomes very painful. Because of the blood clotting in the socket, the socket becomes dry. You need to avoid the development of dry socket. Protection and the care of the socket are compulsory after the tooth extraction. Protection of the socket also protects the alveolar ridge, roots and the bones of the teeth. In order to protect the socket, do not touch your socket with the tongue. Eat ice-cream to avoid the dry socket and to get rid of the blood clot in the socket. If you need a tooth implant then the root and bone care are very important.
What is Socket Preservation?
According to the Canadian Dental Association journal, it is very rare that the bone will fully disappear which previously supported the extracted tooth. But this bone is useless after the tooth extraction. The bone will fade away by the time. So, the teeth can move out from the alignment and the socket preservation is necessary for this scenario. Socket preservation is done at the time of tooth extraction by the dentist.

So, the socket preservation involves the process of placing bone graft into the hole. The bone graft is composed of synthetic materials and from other animal and human bones. After the placement of the bone graft, collagen membrane is applied to cover the socket or alveolar ridge. Then the dentist will stitch the opening and the socket preservation process is completed.
Do You Need Socket Preservation?
Every socket does not need the preservation process. The aim of the socket preservation is to give an improved and proper final look of the gums and the teeth. But may you need a dental implant instead of the socket preservation. Your dentist knows it well. A dental implant is less complicated as compared to the socket preservation. Socket preservation is the valuable process and you need to discuss all the pros and the cons of this specific treatment with your dentist. International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants drew a report and it says that socket preservation procedure helps to reduce the horizontal and vertical alterations in the alveolar ridge.
Self-Care Tips After Tooth Extraction

When the tooth extracted from the mouth, your gums became very sensitive. Your tissues and bone can hurt easily after the extraction. If you ignore the socket care, it becomes dry. So, self-care is very important to avoid the blood clot and dry socket. After the tooth extraction, do not brush your teeth for at least 2 days. Not even with the soft bristle toothbrush. Do not touch the hole with your fingers or the tongue. Do not drink or eat anything which causes pressure to your gums and mouth. Like, do not drink with the straw. Do not eat hard things like snacks and biscuits. Give proper rest to your gums and teeth for at least two days. Do not open any bottle from the teeth. Eat more and more ice-cream for the first day of tooth extraction at least. Follow the dentist advice as well.

  1. Oh wow, this info about socket prevention after tooth extraction is just so nice. I also have to get my crooked tooth extracted so will ask all this from the dentist Torrance. I am a little nervous about the procedure and that’s why I was procrastinating visiting the dentist.
